Summer, summer, summer, it’s about time you arrived. Well the hot and humid days of summer are here. With the weather comes bugs and people complaining about the heat and humidity. Funny thing is that most people I hear complain seem to complain no matter the weather. It can be raining, snowing, sunny, cloudy or foggy, yet they still complain.
Summer brings more than harsh words though. It brings great things, like ice cream melting in your hands, lemonade stands (the kids down the street always have one up it seems), and fun on the water. But summer also brings FIREWORKS!!!!
Shake the Lake 2019
I have never taken pictures of fireworks before. After looking around for some instruction, I came to realize it wasn’t that difficult. It comes down to keeping your shutter open for a few seconds. This requires a tripod and a remote shutter to keep your camera still. The settings I used were 100 ISO, F/13 and had my camera in BULB mode so I could vary the length the shutter was open.
Last nights event was 2019 Shake the Lake in Madison, WI. Even though the weather looked iffy at the start of the week, it did cooperate with all the viewers. I researched where I should sit earlier in the week, so I could get the photos I wanted. Got to my spot a few hours early and set up. Then I realized I forgot my bug spray.
Summer brings bugs too, but don’t let that deter you from enjoying it, just remember to stay hydrated. I met a bunch of really nice and interesting people while I waited for the show to begin. It was a great night and I think my photos turned out nice too. They can be found in the Night Sky gallery. Enjoy.
